Matt Feinberg '97
Induction Class of 2005

A native of Albany, N.Y., Matthew Feinberg swam at Binghamton from 1993-97. He earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1997 and went on to receive his master's degree in chemistry from Binghamton one year later.

The most decorated swimmer in school history, Feinberg was a captain and premier distance freestyler who achieved five All-America honors for finishing among the top 8 at the NCAA Championships.

He also won seven conference championships and led the Colonials to a pair of team titles in the State University of New York Athletic Conference.

As a freshman, Feinberg led Binghamton to a perfect 8-0 season that was punctuated with the program's first-ever SUNYAC crown. He won five events at the meet, including individual titles in the 500 freestyle and 100 and 200 butterfly.

Feinberg was equally dominant as a sophomore, winning every dual meet freestyle race he entered and becoming the program's first first team All-American with an eighth place finish in the 1,650 free at the national meet.

One year later, Feinberg led the Colonials to another SUNYAC crown before grabbing a pair of All-America honors at the NCAA Championship. In the 1,650 race, he shaved more than 21 seconds off his conference time, storming from well behind in the closing laps to finish second — just 13/100th of a second away from an NCAA title. He also placed eighth in the 500 free.

As a senior, Feinberg earned two more first team All-America honors with a third place finish in the 1,650 free and a seventh-place showing in the 500 free. One month earlier, he was selected as the SUNYAC Jim Fulton Award winner for career achievements.

He was twice chosen as the University's "Athlete of the Year" and also received the John Bilos Award in 1997.
