Induction Class of 2002

A native of Jamaica, N.Y., Mark Jones played basketball at Binghamton from 1984-88. He earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 1990.

Jones played point guard for three varsity seasons, and graduated as both the top scorer (1,405 points) and assist man (547) in program history. His vast offensive skills were complimented by a defensive energy that motivated teammates and frustrated opponents alike.

Midway through his sophomore year, he converted a then-NCAA record 21 consecutive field goals spanning three games. The record, which stood for 15 years, was highlighted by a 13-for-13 performance against New Paltz that also included 7-for-7 marksmanship from the free-throw line.

Jones went on to tally 364 points, shoot 53% and lead the team to the ECAC title game in 1985-86. That year he was named honorable mention All-SUNYAC, and was also selected as the school's "Athlete of the Year."

As a junior, Jones exploded out of the gate with a 30-point performance in the season-opener, and scored in double figures in 24 of 25 games. His scoring average of 18.9 led the team for the second straight year, and Jones was rewarded with first-team All-SUNYAC honors and a repeat selection as Binghamton's "Athlete of the Year."

In his final season in 1987-88, Jones produced a school-record 231 field goals, averaged 21.9 points and 6.8 assists, and shot a remarkable 59% from the field. He was again honored as a first team All-SUNYAC selection.

His 1,405 career points ranks fourth all-time at Binghamton, and he is among the program's top-10 in 12 different categories.
