Sherwin Telford '96 Induction Class of 2004 A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Sherwin Telford played three seasons of basketball at Binghamton from 1991-94 after transferring from University of Rochester. He earned his bachelor's degree in nursing in 1996. Telford's three years represented the best three-year span in program history. His teams compiled an overall record of 61-23 and won three straight SUNYAC East Division titles. A 6-foot-2 shooting guard, Telford poured in 1,685 points in three seasons, which ranks second all-time. He averaged 20.5 points per game, and shot a stellar 52% from the field, including 42% from three-point range. In his first season in 1991-92, Telford led the Colonials to a 19-7 campaign a 10-game improvement over the previous season. He earned first team all-conference honors after BU strung together a school-record 14-game win streak. As a junior, Telford averaged 21.4 points for a 19-9 team that advanced to the SUNYAC Championship game for the first time in program history. He was honored as a first team all-conference and first team all-region selection, and was placed on the national All-America ballot as one of the top two guards in the entire East Region. In his senior year, Telford and a veteran BU team rolled to a school-record 23 wins and captured the program's third consecutive divisional crown. He repeated as a first team all-conference and all-region selection, and led the team to runner-up honors in both the SUNYAC and ECAC. In all, Telford produced two of the top three season scoring totals, and still ranks among the top-10 in 10 different offensive categories. Telford was the University's "Athlete of the Year" all three years he competed. |
