VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton men’s and women’s basketball teams were introduced to fans at the Events Center on Friday night at the BU Basketball Showcase. Sponsored by all locally-owned SUBWAY Restaurants, the 90-minute event included scrimmages by each team, a dance off between the two squads and dunk contest by the men’s team to end the night.
“Our team has been working hard since two weeks after last season ended,” men’s head coach Tommy Dempsey said to the crowd. “We appreciate all of you for coming out as well as the administration here and now we are ready to start winning more games.”
“We appreciate you all for coming tonight,” head women’s coach Nicole Scholl said moments earlier. “We led the America East in attendance two years ago and we want to get back on top again. We need your support this year.”
The women’s team got the better of the crowd’s vote in the dance off, which followed both of the teams’ introductions and scrimmages. The men’s team, however, ended the night with the dunk contest. Sophomore Jordan Reed won the event, by scoring a perfect 10 from all the judges in the final round.
The BU Basketball Showcase was organized by the Binghamton Athletic Department and Late Nite Binghamton.
