VESTAL, N.Y.. - Binghamton Director of Athletics Patrick Elliott  has been selected to serve as a member of the NCAA Division I Amateurism Cabinet, the organization announced from its headquarters in Indianapolis.

“I am honored to represent Binghamton University and the America East Conference on the Amateurism Cabinet during such an important period in intercollegiate athletics,” Elliott said.

The Cabinet, a 21-member group, is responsible for all pre- and post-enrollment amateurism issues, including oversight of issues pertaining to the NCAA Eligibility Center, student-athlete likeness issues, and the relationship between college and professional athletes.

The Amateurism Cabinet reports to the Division I Leadership Council on policy issues and the Division I Legislative Council on legislative issues.

Elliott is slated to serve a four-year appointment on the Cabinet.

At the conference level, Elliott is currently vice chair of the America East Executive Committee, a six-member group that works with the commissioner on strategic planning, budgeting and operations. He will serve two years as vice chair before taking over as committee chair.

Elliott came to Binghamton from St. Peter’s College last November and has 17 years experience as a NCAA Division I administrator. His vision of “excellence with honor” is quickly taking hold at Binghamton, where the Bearcats completed the 2011-12 year with noteworthy achievements in athletics, academics and community service. Binghamton was the only America East member school to place among the top-5 in metrics for athletics performance and academic success. The department’s student-athletes also continued a longstanding tradition of citizenship by volunteering countless hours in the community.
