CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- After going undefeated during the week in singles, sophomore men’s tennis player Ruben Haggai has been been named the America East Player of the Week. Haggai won both his singles matches as the Bearcats pushed ranked opponents to the wire in pair of 4-3 losses. Haggai posted a three-set win at No. 5 against UNC-Wilmington one day after rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 against NC State. He evened his record at 10-10 this season.
Haggai joins Ismael Dinia as a conference weekly award winner early this spring. Dinia was selected on Feburary 29.
Binghamton (5-9) traveled to North Carolina and pushed a pair of ranked opponents to the wire before suffering two 4-3 losses. On Saturday, the Bearcats dropped the doubles point before splitting six singles matches against No. 21 NC State. One day later, Binghamton again split the singles matches but lost two of the three doubles contests to fall at No. 43 UNC-Wilmington. Haggai and freshman Dinia each went 2-0 in singles.
The team is off for 12 days before playing three matches at Army on March 24-25. There, the Bearcats will face the host Black Knights along with Yale and St. Bonaventure.
