VESTAL, N.Y.—Former BU standouts Mike Augliera and Lee Sosa are adjusting to professional baseball early in their respective careers with the Boston Red Sox (Augliera) and Oakland Athletics (Sosa) organizations.
Augliera, a fifth-round pick of the Red Sox, has started three games for Class A Lowell in the New York-Penn League. As is the case with first-year players in Boston’s organization, Augliera has been limited to two innings per start. He has struck out nine and walked none in six innings of work. In his most recent start on Tuesday, Augliera pitched two scoreless innings and struck out four.
Sosa, taken by the Athletics in the 26th round, has appeared in three games out of the bullpen for the Rookie League Arizona team. On June 26, he went two scoreless innings and struck out three.
