VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton baseball will have to wait a bit longer for its home opener. The Bearcats have postponed their scheduled Tuesday home game against Siena to May 1 after steady rain hammered a field already soft from winter snow. The game against the Saints was to be the team’s fourth home date of 2013 but already the scheduled March 23-24 series against Stony Brook was moved to Long Island because of weather and now the Siena game was rescheduled four weeks later.
The shifts mean that head coach Tim Sinicki’s road warriors will now enjoy a 17-game homestand between April 17 and May 12 at the newly refurbished Bearcats Sports Complex. Dating back to the 2011 season, Binghamton has played 78 consecutive games away from home. Weather permitting, the streak will stretch to 82 before the Bearcats host Albany on April 13.
Coming off the team’s series win at Hartford over the weekend, BU (14-9, 5-4 AE) will head to Orono for a three-game America East set against league-leading Maine (6-3 AE) this Saturday and Sunday. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and finish up with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
