VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (5-13) and host Mt. St. Mary’s (6-8) succumbed to rain and had their entire three-game weekend non-conference series wiped out. The teams were originally scheduled to play a three-game set Sunday and Monday in Emmitsburg, Md. Rain has forced the cancellation of the Sunday doubleheader and then one day later the Monday game was scrapped as well.
The Bearcats will now keep their fingers crossed as they head toward a five-game homestand that begins on April 5 when BU welcomes UMBC to the Sports Complex.
Senior center fielder Bill Bereszniewicz leads the team with a .304 average - the lone Bearcat hitting above .300. Bereszniewicz also leads the team in doubles (7) and stolen bases (6). Sophomore infielder Reed Gamache has a team-high 11 RBI.
On the hill, No. 1 starter Jack Rogalla (2-3) has a sparkling 2.08 ERA. Rogalla has struck out 33 in 39 innings of work. Junior Mike Urbanski (1-1, 4.50 ERA) and sophomore Jake Cryts (1-3, 4.22 ERA) are the No. 2 and No. 3 starters respectively. Sophomore closer Mike Bunal (2 saves, 2.79 ERA) has fanned 16 in 9.2 innings.
