Vestal, NY—Junior golfer Bryce Edmister was recently picked as the Team MVP at the 66th Annual Varisty Awards Program last week by head coach Bernie Herceg. This is the second straight MVP award for Edmister who just finished 10th out of 60 individuals competing at the America Sky conference tournament.
In total, Edmister had six top-10 finishes in 2012-13 to pace the Bearcats. The junior lefty posted back-to-back runner-up finishes this fall, taking a second-place standing at Binghamton’s home event and at the Philadelphia Big-5 Invitational just days afterwards. At the Big-5, Edmister came up just one stroke shy of winning his first event with a 36-hole total of 146 (+6). Additionally, he held a narrow lead after two rounds at the season-ending America Sky Championships, but fell to 10th after a final round 77. His second round lead was the first time a BU player has held a share or outright lead at the event since the Bearcats’ inception into the league back in 2007.
In back-to-back years, Edmister has held the team low for scoring average. This season, he carried a 74.5 mark in 11 tournaments played. He had six rounds of par or lower this calendar year and the Bearcats used his score over 92 percent of his rounds played towards their team score. In three seasons with the program, Edmister has ten top-10 finishes dating back to 2010.
