VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton athletics placed fourth out of nine teams in the 2010-11 Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. America East Commissioner’s Cup standings, the league announced late Tuesday evening at its annual summer meeting in Portsmouth, N.H.
It marked the eighth straight year that BU was among the top-four in the competition, which rewards across-the-board success in the 20 conference sports.
The Bearcats compiled 281 points to finish behind champion Boston University (388 pts.), Albany (353) and UMBC (289) in the standings. Binghamton finished ahead of SUNY rival Stony Brook (268) with New Hampshire (226), Maine (194), Hartford (176) and Vermont (167) rounding out the rankings.
The scoring system allots points for regular season and America East tournament success, and the Bearcats’ position was enhanced by its championship in men’s tennis and its four runnerup performances (men’s cross country, men’s indoor track, men’s outdoor track and women’s tennis). Additionally, women’s basketball compiled 39 points, volleyball had 27 points and men’s soccer added 25 points.
Binghamton’s nine men’s teams had the league’s third-highest point total.
