VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton men’s lacrosse team has announced its captains for the 2011 season. Senior midfielders David Raliegh and Frank Donlon as well as senior defenders Adam Pardi and Derrick Danieu will lead the Bearcats into their 10th season as an intercollegiate program.
“I am pleased with the team’s selection of captains this year, as each of the four captains perform brilliantly in the classroom, the community and on the field. They each help to uphold a Binghamton University tradition of academic excellence.”
Raleigh is a three-year starter and has proven to be one of the squad’s most versatile players. Last year, he recorded a point in six different games as a defensive midfielder.
“First and foremost, David is an exceptional student in our prestigious School of Management,” Stephenson said. “On the field, he has been a three year starter as a defensive midfielder, yet has made a seamless transition to the offensive end of the field. We needed David to take his leadership skills and experience to the offensive end of the field as we lost two of our three starting middies to graduation. David brings a unique set of attributes to the offense, as he excels in transition, has a knack for assisting his teammates, and he is an extremely quick dodger. “
Pardi has appeared in 22 games the past two seasons on defense. He has also been one of the team’s top performers in the classroom.
“Adam is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, a Dean’s List student in our School of Management, and carries over a 3.5 cumulative GPA,” Stephenson said. “Although plagued by injuries throughout his career, Adam had successful shoulder surgery this past summer and will be counted on to help bolster a new defensive unit.”
Danieu is a two-time, first-team all-conference selection on defense. Like Pardi, he too has been one of the squad’s top students as well.
“Derrick is also a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, a Dean’s List student in our School of Management, and carries a 3.67 cumulative GPA. A four year starter and two time first team All Conference defender, Derrick is poised to lead a young, but much improved defense.”
Donlon, meanwhile, is the second-leading returning scorer from the 2010 squad. Last year, he netted a career-high 19 goals and was named second-team all-conference.
“Frank Donlon, a Biological Sciences Major, is a strong contributor to our tradition of academic excellence, as he carries a competitive GPA in a challenging discipline. An All Conference midfielder last year, Frank will be counted on to help lead some new faces on the offensive end.”
Binghamton opens its season at Penn State on Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m.
