VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton University head men’s lacrosse coach, Ed Stephenson has announced the teams schedule for the 2011 season. The Bearcats open up their 10th season as an intercollegiate program on Sat. Feb, 19th at Penn State. Six of the squad’s 14 opponents will visit the Bearcats Sports Complex, including 2010 NCAA semifinalist, Cornell on March 1.
“From top to bottom, this is a highly competitive schedule,” Stephenson said. “It is one that will provide valuable experience for our young team.”
Penn State is one of two first time opponents on Binghamton’s schedule this season. On Saturday, March 5, the Bearcats head to Canisius to face a Golden Griff squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament back in 2008.
“The Buffalo area has become a very strong recruiting area for us in the past few years, so from that standpoint, this is a great game.” said Stephenson. “We are also excited to start a competitive relationship with Penn State. I’ve always had tremendous respect for their program.”
The Bearcats will play three teams from the Patriot League, including a Lafayette that cracked the top 10 during the 2010 season (Feb. 26) perennial top-20 program Colgate (March 15) and Lehigh (March 29). The Bearcats will once again play 2009 NCAA tournament team, Siena (March 22) and Marist (March 12) both of whom compete in the MAAC conference. In addition, Binghamton will host upstate rival, Hobart, of the ECAC, on March 8.
In America East play, Binghamton has road games against six-time NCAA tournament team, UMBC on April 9, and defending conference champion and NCAA top-10 team, Stony Brook, on April 16. Home conference games come against Vermont (April 2), Hartford (April 23) and Albany (April 30).
