VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton men’s soccer game on Wednesday night at Columbia may have been a non-conference contest but it was special for another reason. Over 50 men’s soccer alumni, fans and members of the BU Soccer Hooligans met up before the match and were out in force to cheer on the Bearcats.
Earlier in the summer, the men’s soccer program held a similar event in New York City. With the success of that gathering, the decision was made to hold another get together in conjunction with the match at Columbia.
“It’s nice to be back and be in touch with Binghamton soccer alumni,” 2003 graduate Stephen Rybak said. “It brings back memories of a great experience I had back in the early 2000s. It’s nice to still be friends with my teammates and see what the younger guys are doing.”
“Tonight’s event is pretty special for me because being a part of the program was a big part of my life,” 1988 graduate Raul Martynek said. “It’s great to still be a part of it as an alumnus. I just loved the athletic and academic combination of what Binghamton University has to offer.”
Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger, who was en route to meetings in the area, was also on hand for the event.
