VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton softball team, which had their best season since moving up to the NCAA Division I level nine years ago, recorded the highest overall GPA in the America East Conference during the 2009-10 season. The Bearcats overall GPA was a stellar 3.45.
Of the 14 players on the 2010 roster, 11 of them were named to the America East Academic Honor (with at least a 3.0 GPA). In addition, six players were named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll (with at least a 3.5 GPA). At the conclusion of the season, junior catcher Deannie Plemon and junior first baseman Stephanie DeLuca were named to the America East softball All-Academic team.
“I give our players a lot of credit to accomplish all they did this year,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “They stayed very focused throughout the year on their academics and not only achieved a great overall team GPA but did so while adjusting to a new coach and staying determined to turn things around with our softball program.”
Binghamton posted a 24-19 record in 2010, recording their first winning season since 1999.
