VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton women’s basketball program has received a National Letter of Intent from two high school seniors. Both of them will join the team as freshmen next fall.
Gina Surdokaite (Lockport, Ill.) is a 5-10 shooting guard from Lockport Township High School. As a junior, she averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game. Surdokaite is a three-year starter and was named All-Southland Conference during the 2009-10 campaign.
“What’s most exciting about Gina is her ability to shoot the ball from the outside,” head coach Nicole Scholl said. “She can put up points quickly if you don’t pay attention to where she is on the floor. Gina plays with a lot of confidence and will do whatever it takes to win.”
Sherae Swinson (Odenton, Md.) is a 6-0 forward from Archbishop Spalding High School. As a junior, she averaged 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game. In addition, Swinson was also named to the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference second-team.
“Sherae is a tough competitor who can play both the four or three position,” Scholl said. “She has a great outside touch on her shot, but can also score with her back to the basket and is a solid defender and rebounder.”
Binghamton, which is currently 5-4, will lose only one player to graduation after the current season. All five current starters are eligible to return in 2011-12.
“We are excited with our two latest additions to the Binghamton women’s basketball program,” Scholl said. “They fit in very well with our style of play and will help provide more depth to an already solid team that is returning.”
