BU Women’s Basketball tips off season against Mt. St. Mary’s on Nov. 11
Bearcats travel to Minnesota Tournament, host Syracuse and UMass
August 15, 2011
VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton women’s basketball team will open up the 2011-12 season with a Nov. 11 home game against Mt. St. Mary’s. The game against the Mounts, which will take place at the Events Center at 7 p.m., is the first of 13 non-conference games they will play this year.
Binghamton also hosts Syracuse on Nov. 26, St. Bonaventure on Dec. 3, Rider on Dec. 17 and UMass on Dec. 19. The Bearcats face the Orange for the first time in two seasons and just the third time at home during their 10-year Division I era. Last season, Binghamton traveled to UMass, St. Bonaventure and Rider.
On the road, Binghamton heads to the Minnesota Tournament (Nov. 19-20) for the first time since 2000. While the tournament pairings have yet to be announced, the field also includes Nevada and North Dakota State. The other tournament the Bearcats travel to is at St. Peter’s, where they will meet the host school Dec. 29 in the opening round. The following day, Binghamton will face either Dayton or South Florida.
Other road games are at Siena on Nov. 15, Cornell on Nov. 30, Army on Dec. 6 and Niagara on Dec. 10.
“I’m looking forward to starting this season with a veteran group,” head coach Nicole Scholl said. “They are a group that wants to be challenged and we feel we have put together a non conference schedule that will do that for them.”
The America East portion of Binghamton’s schedule will be released in the fall. The conference tournament returns to Hartford for the fifth consecutive year. The four-day event will be held March 1-4.
Binghamton returns four starters, including a pair of all-conference players, from last season’s squad that went 19-12 (11-5 AE). The Bearcats were third in the America East during the regular season and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
