VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton women’s soccer freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Cook was selected to the America East All-Rookie Team, the conference announced Wednesday. Cook joined 10 other first-year players on the team.
After a much-heralded scholastic career for nearby Maine-Endwell High, Cook quickly established herself as a starting center midfielder and contributor in 2010. She shared the team lead with three goals, including the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Delaware State. In addition, Cook was recognized as the America East Player of the Game three times during the season.
“‘Cookie’ is well-deserving of this recognition,” head coach Sarah McClellan said. “She is a great player and competitor - and only a freshman! She is going to be an exciting player to watch in the future years.”
The Bearcats (4-11-2, 2-4-2 AE) narrowly missed their seventh straight postseason berth, falling short by one goal in each of their final two games and missing the sixth and final America East playoff spot by one point.
For the first time in the school’s nine-year America East membership, BU wasn’t afforded any players on the all-conference teams.
