ITHACA, N.Y.—Senior Jillian Santos and freshman Missy Edelblum went undefeated over the weekend, capping off the tournament Sunday with an 8-1 victory in the flight B doubles final. Edelblum rounded up her first tournament at Binghamton by advancing to the consolation finals of the singles C flight. There was no team scoring kept at this event.
Santos and Edelblum won an exciting quarterfinals match with an 9-8 (7-5) victory over Kirsten Kohager/Courtney Malinchak of Cornell. The following day, they were able to rack up an 8-5 victory over NJIT and cruised in the finals with an 8-1 victory over Sarah O’Neil and Rosemary Li of Cornell.
Edelblum fell in her opening singles match, but bounced back with two victories before falling to Rosemary Li of Cornell in the flight C consolation finals. Like Edelblum, freshman Katherine Medianik also made a solid debut for Binghamton. Medianik played her way to the A Flight consolation semifinal and placed third in “A” doubles with senior teammate Marina Bykovskaya.
In more singles action, Marina Bykovskaya took home a fourth place finish in flight B and sophomore Jennifer Fridman also placed fourth in the C flight.
The Bearcats return to action next weekend when they head to Providence, Rhode Island to participate in the Brown Invitational September 23-25.
