VESTAL, N.Y. – Freshman first baseman Lisa Cadogan has been named the America East Softball Rookie of the Week for March 3-9. It marks the first time in her career that she has earned the conference’s weekly award.
Cadogan earned the accolade by virtue of her performance this past weekend at the Maryland/Miken Invitational. She hit a team-best .500 in leading Binghamton to a 2-1 performance . Cadogan homered in all three games, drove in five runs and recorded a .583 on-base percentage as well as a 1.000 slugging percentage. In the process, Cadogan becomes the first Binghamton player to homer in three straight games since senior teammate Jessica Phillips homered in five straight games from March 20-April 3, 2011.
For the season, Cadogan leads the Bearcats with a .342 batting average, three home runs and eight RBI. She has hit safely in seven of the last eight games and has recorded four multiple-hit games.
“Lisa has been our most consistent hitter so far this year and has come through with some big hits in clutch situations,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “She has a great attitude and carries herself very well at the plate and in the field.”
Cadogan is the second Binghamton softball player to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season. Freshman outfielder Sydney Harbaugh was tabbed on Feb. 18.
Binghamton (4-8) heads to the James Madison Invitational this coming weekend.
