Vestal, N.Y.—Junior swimmer Caitlin Kelly was recently recognized by the America East as their Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday morning. Kelly broke a pair of school records in the Bearcats’ 179-121 win over Marist on Saturday.
The Warwick, N.Y. native swam a blistering time in the 50 free (23.72) and in the 100 free (52.20) setting two new records at Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center. She bested the old mark by .06 seconds in the 50, previously set by Maria McIntyre of Boston University in 2009 and also took down an eight year record in the 100 which was done by former BU standout Huijue Cai in 2005.
In relays, Kelly also helped anchor a pair of victories as well on Saturday. In the 200 medley, Kelly closed out the win alongside teammates Racquel Giner, Corinne Zotter and Shannon Lampe in a time of 1:47.91. In the last event of the afternoon, the junior standout was also part of a foursome that claimed the 400 free relay.
So far this season, Caitlin has registered a pair of new career bests. She is the program’s fastest swimmer in the 50 free with a time of 23.47 set earlier this season and also moved into third place all-time with her 100 free time on Saturday.
The women have won three straight dual meets and head into next weekend’s America East Championship with strong momentum. The four-day event begins on Feb. 13 from the campus of WPI in Worcester, Massachusetts.
