Freshman catcher Taylor Chaffee has been named the America East Softball Rookie of the Week. It marks the third time this season that she has earned the conference’s weekly accolade.
Chaffee hit .375 with a team-high two home runs and six RBI in leading Binghamton to a 5-0 week. She belted a three-run home run against Colgate on April 23 and followed up with a 3-for-9 performance (.333) in the series against Stony Brook this past weekend.
Chaffee drove in two of the three runs in the Bearcats’ 3-2, eight-inning win in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Seawolves. That includes the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning. For the week, Chaffee recorded an on-base percentage of .444 and a slugging percentage of .750.
Heading into the final week of the regular season, Chaffee ranks ninth in the America East in batting (.319), is tied for second with nine home runs and is sixth with 32 RBI. She also ranks second in slugging percentage (.646).
Earlier in the season, Chaffee was named the America East Rookie of the Week on April 8 and April 15.
Binghamton (26-13, 13-2 AE) will travel to Cornell for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m
NOTES: Binghamton has now had six of the 11 America East Rookie of the Week selections during the current softball season. Freshman outfielder Sydney Harbaugh got the nod on Feb. 18 while freshman first baseman Lisa Cadogan was honored on both March 4 and March 18. Cadogan was also the Player of the Week on March 11.
