Cross country squads compete at Lehigh/Paul Short Run
Papastrat and Jelinek are top Bearcat finishers

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Seniors Vasili Papastrat and Caitlin Jelinek were the top Binghamton finishers as the cross country teams took part in the Lehigh/Paul Short Run on Saturday morning. In the team standings, the Bearcat men were 26th out of 47 teams in the gold race while the women were 34th out of 45 teams in the brown race.
Papastrat was 84th overall in the men’s race, covering the 8,000-meter course in a time of 25:18. Junior Matt Johnson was 132nd (25:40), senior Jason Santos was 145th (25:43), junior Jesse Garn was 170th (25:54) and junior Collin Frost was 189th (26:04).
James Leakos of Harvard clocked a winning time of 23:13. Indiana, meanwhile, won the team title. There were 397 finishers in the men’s gold race.
Jelinek, meanwhile, clocked a time of 23:47 for the 6,000-meter course and placed 111th overall. She has now been the women’s top finisher in all three meets this season.
Jessica Scordino of Mansfield was the top women’s finisher with a time of 21:13. Holy Cross was first in the team standings. There were 301 finishers in the women’s brown race.
The Binghamton men’s team is scheduled to compete next at the Princeton Invitational on Oct. 19. The Bearcat women’s squad will head to the Central Connecticut State Mini-Meet on Oct. 25.
