Cross country teams place second at Buffalo Stampede

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senior Caitlin Jelinek was fourth in the women’s race and junior Andrew Roache was sixth in the men’s event, highlighting the Binghamton cross country teams’ performances at the Buffalo Stampede on Saturday. Both Bearcat squads were second to the host Bulls in the team standings. There were four teams in each race.

Jelinek, who has been the women’s top runner in both meets this season, covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 19:03. Sophomore Lizzie Greiner was ninth (19:26), freshman Eileen O’Hara was 13th (19:47), fellow freshman Alana MacDonald was 15th (20:02) and sophomore Shannon O’Hara was 21st (20:53).

Christina Clarkin of Buffalo won the 53-runner race with a time of 18:24. She finished 24 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Roache, meanwhile, clocked a time of 26:35 for the men’s 8,000 meter course. Sophomore Nate Kozyra was seventh (26:37), senior Ben Snodgrass was eighth (26:38), junior Jared Rousell was ninth (26:39) and sophomore Jon Vallecorsa was 12th (26:57).

Zachary Alhart of the Bulls won the men’s race in a time of 25:44. He was 34 seconds ahead of runner-up Cameron Bruce, also of Buffalo.

Up next for Binghamton is the Lehigh Paul Short run on Oct. 5 at noon.
