VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton University baseball’s own Mike Danaher has recently been named a finalist for the second annual CBI (College Baseball Insider) Tom Walter College Baseball Inspirational Award.
Danaher, a senior from right here in Vestal, has been recognized not only for his strong play on the field in 2012 (.240 BA, 20 RBIs), but also for his fine work demonstrated on a medical mission to Kenya. As an aspiring orthopedic surgeon, Danaher traveled with ten others to the Kikuyu Orthopedic Rehabilitation Centre to assist in multiple surgeries and partake in multiple events giving back to the people of Kenya.
The award is named after Tom Walter, the head coach at Wake Forest who donated his kidney to one of his players, a freshman Kevin Jordan in 2011. Danaher is one of ten finalists that include student-athletes from Clemson, Georgia Tech and Texas. The winner will be announced on August 21.
