VESTAL, N.Y.—Senior first baseman Stephanie DeLuca has been named to the COSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Softball Team. The voting, which was done by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA), was based on a combination of her athletic and academic accomplishments.
There were two COSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams. DeLuca was named to the first team and will advance to the national ballot, which will be released later in the month.
DeLuca, who has a 3.68 overall GPA as a biology major, ranks fourth on the Bearcats in batting, third in home runs and fourth in RBI. She has belted 12 home runs during the past two seasons and against Siena on April 6, she hit her first career grand slam.
“Stephanie is so deserving of this honor and sets such a great example for those around her,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “She has brought so much to the Binghamton campus and community and we will miss her next year.”
Last month, DeLuca was also honored with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. It was awarded based her record of academic excellence and accomplishments in leadership, athletics, career achievement and community service.
In April 2009, DeLuca was inducted into the National College Athlete Honors Society. The following year, she was named to the America East Conference All-Academic Team. DeLuca has also been named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll (minimum 3.5 GPA) every semester she has been at Binghamton.
On Thursday, DeLuca and the Bearcats (22-21, 10-7 AE) will take part in their first-ever America East Tournament. Binghamton is seeded No. 3 and will face No. 2 Albany on 3:30 p.m. in the opening round of the double-elimination event.
