Vestal, N.Y.—Freshman women’s tennis player Annie DiMuro was named the America East Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the conference. DiMuro went a perfect 3-0 in singles play and also picked up two doubles victories over the weekend.
A newcomer from Chester, N.J., DiMuro had her most successful weekend as a member of the Binghamton women’s tennis program. On both Friday and Saturday, she picked up singles wins from the third position in BU’s lineup, including a three-set win over Margarita Kotok of Buffalo who came in with a record of 15-2. On Sunday, DiMuro blanked Colgate with a straight set 6-0,6-0 win at fourth singles.
In doubles competition, DiMuro teamed up with sophomores Agatha Ambrozy and Sara Kohtz to claim a pair of victories over Niagara and Colgate. Her nine victories in doubles are the most on the Binghamton squad.
“I’m extremely proud of this accomplishment for Annie,” head coach Libby McGovern said. “She has been very consistent in her play from week-to-week and match-to-match. Annie finds ways to exploit her opponents’ weaknesses and fights for every point, which has allowed her to win a lot of tight matches. She has been a terrific addition to our lineup and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.”
Through fall competition and seven dual matches, DiMuro leads the Bearcats in both singles and doubles victories with 12 and 9, respectively. She has won four straight singles matches and has a team-leading five dual victories this 2014 spring campaign.
DiMuro and Binghamton will next compete on Friday as they head to Rutgers for an afternoon matchup with the Scarlet Knights. They close out the weekend on Sunday at NJIT.
