SANTA MONICA, Calif.—Sophomore golfer Bryce Edmister (Webster, NY/ Webster-Schroeder HS) recently was named to the Division I PING All-Region team Wednesday evening by the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America). A total of 155 players were selected amongst six regions that include: Northeast, East, Southeast, Midwest, Central and West. Edmister joins seven other Binghamton players who have received all-region honors at the Division I level, including 2011 graduate Jake Katz who earned the honor in back-to-back seasons (2010, 2011).
The lefty sophomore was superb throughout the 2011-12 season for the Bearcats, leading the team in nearly every statistical category including scoring average (73.9) and top-10 finishes (3). A first-team America Sky all-conference selection, Edmister was a model of consistency this past year placing in the top-20 or better in eight of the 10 tournaments he entered. Binghamton counted his score towards the team tally an astonishing 27-of-28 rounds as he paced the squad with nine rounds of par or lower.
“This is an excellent honor for Bryce who played solid all year for us,” head coach Bernie Herceg said. “He improved greatly from last year and it certainly showed. He had a terrific scoring average this past year and was a go-to-guy for us. Being that he’s just a sophomore it’s scary the potential Bryce has. He has a promising future and this is an excellent start.”
With the all-region nod, Edmister is the lone America Sky player to receive this honor in 2012. As an underclassmen, he joins just five other past Binghamton underclassmen to be named to the PING all-region team (Jake Sladish, Dave Andrews, Hal Jacobs, Adam Fuchs and Jeff Wolniewicz).
