VESTAL, NY—For the second straight year, Binghamton junior golfer Bryce Edmister has been named to the PING All-Region team. PING honored 155 Division I golfers nationally as Edmister joined 24 other student-athletes in the Northeast region. He becomes the first Binghamton golfer to earn back-to-back honors since 2010-11 (Jake Katz).
The junior lefty finished top-20 or better in eight of the 11 tournaments he entered this season; highlighted by a team-high six top-10 finishes. In the fall, he garnered a pair of runner up finishes in consecutive events at the BU Invitational and Philadelphia Big-5 Invite. Edmister shot par or lower in six rounds on his way to a team leading 74.5 scoring average. Edmister joins just one other player from the America Sky conference (Evan Russell, Hartford) on the PING All-Region team.
“Making All-Region for the second year in a row is quite an accomplishment,” head coach Bernie Herceg said. “With a lot of hard work, Bryce has established himself as a high caliber player in our region and helped earn the respect of our program across the Northeast.”
Just like he did a season ago, Edmister was heavily relied upon in this his junior season. His scorecard was counted 25-of-27 times in 2012-13 as he guided the Bearcats to three team tournament titles. At this year’s annual department awards show, he was honored with his second straight team MVP award.
Seven other Binghamton players in their Division-I history have been named to the PING All-Northeast Region. They are Adam Fuchs (2002-2003), Joe Kunz (2003-04), Keith Hendrickson (2003-04), Jeff Wolniewicz (2004-07), Kevin Crawford (2006), Zach Vinal (2007-08), Jake Katz (2010-11).
