San Antonio, TX—Junior Bryce Edmister fired a second round 71 (-1) to take sole possession of the individual lead at the America Sky Golf Conference championship at The Dominion Country Club in San Antonio. Binghamton dropped a pair of spots on the day with a team score of 303 (+15) and currently hold a seventh place position in the 12-school event. Southern Utah fired a second round 285 (-3) to take the team lead, a slight one-stroke advantage over first round leaders Houston Baptist.
Edmister, who entered Tuesday in third place after an opening round 70, had yet another eventful front nine at the Dominion Country Club. In his first five holes, BU’s top player recorded two birdies and a pair of bogeys to begin the day. Just two holes later, he took advantage of the par 5 seventh with an eagle on the 528 yard hole. Edmister went on to record 10 pars and one bogey the remainder of the round to jump into the first place spot with a 36-hole total of 148 (-3). He holds the one stoke lead over Jordan Herzog of Webster State and Jordan Weir of Sacramento State who both are two under par.
Senior David Cellura continues to play well in San Antonio, recording a 73 (+1) in round two. Cellura had a nice start on Tuesday, making birdies on the pair of par fives that wrap up the 3400 yard front nine (7th and 9th hole). After a birdie on 10 and four straight pars, he gave a few strokes back after three bogeys on the remaining four holes at the Dominion. Cellura firmly sits in 18th place, tied with four others at 148 (+4).
Sophomore Jack Sedgewick followed up an opening round 77 with a 79 on Tuesday. The Ontario native made just one birdie on the afternoon, but it came at the right time as he recorded a 4 on the par 5 18th and final hole of the day. Sedgewick made 11 pars Tuesday, but was hurt by a pair of double bogeys in the second round. Freshman Jesse Perkins rounded out the Binghamton lineup on Tuesday with an 80 (+8).
As a team, the Bearcats have a 36-hole total of 601 (+25) and trail tournament leaders Southern Utah who have a two-day total of 581 (+5). Binghamton is 12 strokes behind fifth place Utah Valley entering Tuesday as they are in search of their seventh top-5 team finish of the season.
The final round will take place tomorrow as BU tees off beginning at 8 am with Perkins. Edmister starts his day at 8:32 and is in search of his first individual tournament championship as a Bearcat. Follow live final round results here
