VESTAL, N.Y.—While Binghamton baseball’s current ace, Mike Augliera, is attracting attention from Major League Baseball scouts, former Bearcat standouts Scott Diamond and Murphy Smith are putting up impressive numbers early in their 2012 seasons.

Diamond, who made seven starts last summer for the Minnesota Twins, is beginning the year with the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate in Rochester. Diamond leads the International League in wins (4-0) and ERA (1.07).

Smith, a 13th-round pick of the Oakland Athletics in 2009, has made a steady rise in the A’s organization. He is with the team’s Double-A affiliate in Midland of the Texas League and is 3-0 with a 3.15 ERA in his first four appeareances.
