Vestal, NY—Head men’s lacrosse coach Scott Nelson announced four captains for the Bearcats upcoming 2013 season. The captains include seniors Tyler Perrelle and Shane Warner, and are rounded out by juniors Greg Cove and Matt Springer.
“All four of our captains this year are well deserving of this honor,” Nelson said. “They bring strong leadership to our team and are all great mentors for our younger guys.”
Midfielder Tyler Perrelle is coming off his best season in a BU uniform. In 2012, Perrelle netted a career-high 25 goals to go along with 17 assists. His 42 points were the third highest season total in program history.
Joining him in the midfield and also as a captain for his final year is Shane Warner. Warner saw action in all 13 games last year, making three starts as a defensive specialist.
As Binghamton’s lone defensive all-conference selection, junior Greg Cove steps in as a leader of the defense and a team captain. He started all 13 games last season and was third on the team with 12 caused turnovers as a sophomore.
After red shirting last season with a foot injury, junior Matt Springer rejoins Binghamton in a leadership role. A prolific scoring threat, Springer has tallied 58 goals and 73 points in two seasons, which is third and eighth all-time in program history.
The Bearcats return six starters from a team who finished the year 4-9 (1-4 AE) last season. Binghamton wraps up fall ball with their Alumni game this Friday night (Oct. 12) and with the Edward Coombs Memorial Fall Tournament held Saturday October 20. Teams competing in the event will be Lafayette, Manhattan, Marist, Merrimack, and Dowling.
