VESTAL, NY—Four Binghamton University men’s golfers were recently named to the America Sky All-Academic team, which requires student-athletes have a yearly GPA of at least 3.20. The selected Bearcats include sophomore Jack Sedgewick, junior Bryce Edmister and seniors David Cellura and Ryan Prinzo. The conference had its highest number of student-athletes named to the All-Academic team (51) since their inception as a league in 2007.

Jack Sedgewick completed his second year with the BU program not only having success on the golf course, but in the classroom as well. The Ontario native competed in all 11 tournaments for Binghamton, turning in the fifth best scoring average on the team at 76.9. He helped guide BU to a team tournament title at the Mount St. Mary’s Invite with a personal-best third place individual finish. A management major, Sedgewick managed a 3.40 GPA this past academic school year. This marks the second time he’s an All-Academic member.

Team MVP and All-PING Northeast Region standout Bryce Edmister also makes the grade in 2013. The junior lefty once again paced BU in scoring (74.5), earning a team-best six top-10 finishes in 2012-13. Edmister is enrolled in Harpur College, where he boasted a 3.41 yearly GPA. This is his first selection to the All-Academic squad.

Four-year letterwinner David Cellura earns his first All-Academic nod with a 3.81 GPA this past season.  Cellura wrapped up his successful BU career with a pair of top-10 finishes in 2012-13, including his best career finish at the Mount St. Mary’s Invite (T-4). The Penfield, NY earned his degree this past May.

Lastly, Binghamton’s top academic performer for 2012-13 is senior Ryan Prinzo. Prinzo, a four-time America Sky All-Academic selection, finished with a GPA of 3.87. Prinzo, an accounting major from Delmar, NY played in a pair of tournaments this past fall for the Bearcats. He graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 and was recognized at this year’s annual BU Awards Banquet as one of the athletic department’s top graduating seniors.

Since 2009-2010, the Binghamton golf program has had 18 selections to the America Sky All-Academic squad.
