PRINCETON, N.J.—Sophomore middle distance runner Jesse Garn has been named the America East Track Athlete of the Week for April 23. It marks the first time in his career that he has earned the conference’s weekly accolade.
Garn clocked a third-place time of 3:45.67 in the 1,500 at the Princeton/Larry Ellis Invitational this past weekend. His time ranks No. 27 on the NCAA East Region Top Performance List.
At the conclusion of the conference meets in May, the top 48 performances in each event advance to the East Regional Meet, which will be hosted by North Carolina A&T May 23-25. From that meet, the top 12 finishers in the finals will advance to the NCAA Championships, which take place June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
“This was a great stepping stone for Jesse,” assistant track coach Annette Acuff said. “Being the most competitive field he has raced in, I was impressed.”
Last season, Garn advanced to the finals of the 800 at the NCAA East Regional Meet.
