VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior middle distance runner Jesse Garn has been selected to run in the Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games on Saturday at the New York City Armory. The signature event of the meet will be run at 4:48 p.m. and will air live on NBCSN.

Garn returns to the New York City Armory one week after capturing the 1,000 at the Collegiate Indoor Invitational with a time of 2:21.99. He is the defending America East Conference outdoor champion in the 1,500 and was 13th at the 2013 East Regional Meet in that event.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Jesse,” assistant track coach Annette Acuff said. “I couldn’t be more excited for him, especially since this is only his second college indoor season.”

Since 1914, the Millrose Games has been one of the top annual indoor track & field meets in the world. There have been 202 athletes who have shared the distinction of being both Millrose Games and Olympic champions. The Wanamaker Mile has been the featured event of the meet and has been won by accomplished runners such as Kip Keino, Steve Scott, Noureddine Morceli, Bernard Lagat, Marcus O’Sullivan and Eamonn Coghlan.

Headlining this year’s Wanamaker Mile field is Matt Centrowitz, who won the silver medal in the 1,500 at last year’s World Track & Field Championships in Moscow.  Other top entrees include 2013 NCAA indoor mile and 3000 champion Lawi Lalang, 2012 NCAA indoor mile champion Chris O’Hare and Alan Webb, the American open and high school record-holder in the mile, who will be running the Wanamaker Mile as his indoor track retirement race. The Wanamaker Mile men’s record is 3:51.21, set by Lopez Lomong last year.

Garn is the second Binghamton runner to compete in the Millrose Games. Erik van Ingen ran in the 2012 Wanamaker Mile and placed fifth with a school-record time of 3:56.37.
