HUNTINGTON VALLEY, PA.—Binghamton golf concluded play at the Temple Invitational on Sunday, finishing in 7th place out of 17 teams competing at the par 70 Philmont CC. BU shot a team total of 288 (+8) on the afternoon, giving them a 36-hole total of 583 (+23). Junior Jack Sedgewick had the best outing over the weekend, finishing in a tie for 6th place with a two-day tally of 143 (+3).
Heading into the final round in ninth place, the Bearcats jumped a pair of spots on the team leaderboard on Sunday with their 288. Junior Josh Holling guided Binghamton on the afternoon, shooting Binghamton’s lowest round of the event; a one-under 69. Holling racked up six birdies on his round, including five on the final nine holes of his day.
Sedgewick had a stellar front nine once again on Sunday, recording eight pars and a birdie on the par 3 eighth hole for the second consecutive day. Despite a three-over par back nine, Sedgewick managed to secure a top-10 finish at the end of Sunday. His sixth-place finish is the second best of his career, only trailing his performance at the Mount St. Mary’s Invitational last spring (T-3 of 63).
Both Holling and senior Bryce Edmister recorded 36-hole totals of 146 (+6), good for a tie at 16th place. After a 74 Saturday, Edmister bounced back with a 72 (+2) from Philmont CC in his final round. The senior from Webster, N.Y. made 22 pars over his two rounds.
Tournament champions Hartford shot a two-day total of 562 (+2), clearing second place St. John’s by 15 strokes. Evan Russell of Hartford won individual medalist honors with an overall score of 130 (-10).
BU will wrap up their fall schedule on Oct. 28-29 in Vero Beach, Fla. as they get set to compete in the Quail Valley Collegiate hosted by McNeese State.
