Angels Camp, CA—The Binghamton University golf team will play in the America Sky Championship this upcoming weekend. The three-day event is held in Angels Camp, California at the Greenhorn Creek Resort. The seven-team field will play 54 holes of golf beginning on Friday, April 25 and ending on Sunday, April 27.

The tournament field includes Hartford, North Dakota, Northern Colorado, host school Sacramento State, Southern Utah and Weber State. The field includes five teams in the top-200 of the Golfweek collegiate rankings. Defending champions Houston Baptist will not be in the field, they won the event a season ago with a 54-hole tally of 871 from San Antonio, TX.

Binghamton will fight for a chance at an NCAA regional tournament bid at the par 72 Greenhorn Creek Resort. The course stretches out over 6,800 yards and is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed layout.

The Bearcats have competed in 10 tournaments over the course of 2013-14, compiling seven top-5 team finishes and a pair of victories at the Colgate Fall Invitational (Sept. 21-22), and most recently at the FDU Invitational (April 13-14). Binghamton, as a team, has a scoring average of 297.3 through 26 rounds played this year. Their lowest round of the season came in a winning performance at Colgate; they broke a school record with a round of -7 from Seven Oaks GC.

BU is led by senior standout Bryce Edmister who has a team-low scoring average of 73.6 this season. Edmister, a two-time PING All-Region selection, has six top 10’s and a runner-up finish at the Colgate Invite earlier this season. Last year, Edmister finished alone in 10th place at the America Sky Championship.

Josh Holling and Jack Sedgewick have both strung together terrific junior campaigns for sixth-year head coach Bernie Herceg. The pair have combined to secure six top-10 finishes and have been consistent performers in the Bearcats’ lineup in 2013-14.

Freshman Kyle Wambold has fit in nicely to the Bearcats golf program, tallying a scoring average of 75.1, good for third best on the Binghamton squad. Wambold has four top-10 finishes this year, including a third place standing in the Wildcat Invitational earlier this spring.

Action from California will kick off with round one as tee times are set to begin at 8:00 a.m. (PST).
