Vero Beach, Fla.—The Binghamton University golf team shot a score of 299 (+11) in Tuesday’s final round of the Quail Valley Intercollegiate. The Bearcats jumped ahead one spot, finishing in fifth when play concluded on Tuesday afternoon from Quail Valley Golf Course. Senior Bryce Edmister turned in his third consecutive 72 (E) on Tuesday, claiming a 6th place finish (tied with two others).
Louisiana-Monroe ran away with the tournament title on Tuesday, winning by 21 strokes at the event’s finale. Charlie Macneal of Louisiana-Monroe shot a tournament-best 201 (-15), 11 strokes better than teammate and runner-up Greg Small. Hosts McNeese State finished second with a team score of 868.
In 54 holes of play, Binghamton registered a team score of 885 (+21). Their fifth place standing marks the fifth time they have recorded a top-5 team finish this fall. Edmister and freshman Kyle Wambold put forth BU’s best effort from Quail Valley, marking scores of 72 and 73, respectively.
Beginning on the par 4 sixth hole, senior Bryce Edmister jumped out to a strong start, birdying four of his first nine holes. Despite playing the remaining nine holes at three-over, Edmister secured his 15th top-10 finish of his career.
Wambold began his day much like Edmister, recording a birdie on his first hole, the par 3 eighth hole. After a double bogey on 12, Wambold responded in good fashion, tallying birdies on both 13 and 14. He made par on his last five holes, good for a 73 (+1) on Tuesday. The Pennsylvania native worked his way to a T-13 finish in the 47-man field.
Junior Josh Holling shot a 77 (+5) on Tuesday, wrapping up his fall in a tie for 19th place at the McNeese State hosted event. Jack Sedgewick also carded a 77 in the final round; finishing tied for 35th with a 54-hole total of 229.
