2014 Fall Schedule

Vestal, N.Y.—The Binghamton golf team and head coach Bernie Herceg have announced their upcoming schedule for the 2014 fall season. The Bearcats will compete in six different tournaments over the course of September and October, and will host the third annual BU Collegiate Fall Invitational at The Links at Hiawatha Landing on Otctober 5-6.

Binghamton opens up the season in Hamilton, NY at the Colgate Fall Invitational on Sept. 6-7 at Seven Oaks GC. Last fall, Binghamton was crowned champions of the 14-team field, beating out 2012 winners Youngstown State by eight strokes. In total, BU has won the Colgate Invitational five times and will be one of the favorites in the 54-hole tournament.

Two weeks later, the Bearcats once again tee it up at a familiar course and event, playing in the Cornell Fall Invitational in nearby Ithaca. Binghamton has placed first at the Robert Trent Jones designed course four times in the last five years and boasts a pair of individual tournament medalists, including senior Josh Holling who topped the field in 2012. Closing out the month of September, Binghamton travels to Lorton, Virginia to compete in the Patriot Intercollegiate, the third annual event hosted by A-10 school George Mason.

Beginning on the morning of Sunday, October 5, the Bearcats will play host during the 36-hole BU Collegiate Fall Invitational. Teams will square off at Binghamton’s home course, The Links at Hiawatha Landing, over the span of two days at the beautiful links style course in Apalachin. In 2013, Binghamton finished in third place out of 13 schools after the event had been cut down to just 18 holes due to weather.

The following two weekends, Binghamton wraps up their fall competition at both the Big 5 Invitational (Oct. 11-12) and at the Lehigh Invitational (Oct. 18-19). The Big 5 Invitational, which is hosted by Temple, has been a mainstay on the Binghamton schedule over the years. The Bearcats have played in the Philadelphia event five of the last six fall seasons.

Binghamton will take their final tournament swings of the fall at the Lehigh Invitational and Saucon Valley CC where the 2013 championship trophy was hoisted by Rutgers.

Binghamton had a strong year in 2013-14, finishing in the top-5 of the field on seven occasions, including a pair of tournament victories at the Colgate Invitational and Fairleigh Dickinson Spring Invitational. The Bearcats, who set a school record for scoring average this past season (298.5), returns all but one letterwinner for the 2014-15 campaign.
