Grasonville, Maryland—The Binghamton golf team is in action this weekend at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational beginning this Sunday morning. The Bearcats are one of 25 teams competing in the three-day event played at the par 72 Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, Maryland.
BU comes off their first action of the spring at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate which was hosted by William & Mary. The event was originally a 54-hole tournament, but due to poor weather was cut down to a single round format. The Bearcats finished tied for 25th out of 32 teams with a score of 307 (+27).
Junior Bryce Edmister had Binghamton’s best showing at the River Course, recording a score of 73 (+3). The team’s leading scorer posted a 25th place finish out of 158 individuals competing. Senior David Cellura had a solid back-nine on his way to a 75 (+5).
Last year at the very same event, which was previously named the Fireline Towson Invitational, the Bearcats recorded a fifth-place team finish. Powered by a round-low score of 289 (+1), BU jumped three spots on the final round to claim the top-5 finish. 2012 graduate Trevor Fiedler had a team-best 14th place finish and Edmister shot a 69 (-3) to secure his fourth top-20 finish of the season.
