Williamsburg, VA—After a pair of snowy days, the Bearcats finally wrapped up first round play at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate. Initially a 54-hole event, officials had to cut the tournament to just one single round due to weather and scheduling issues. As a team, Binghamton finished with a team-score of 307 (+27) at the par 70 River Course in Williamsburg; finishing tied for 25th out of 32 teams
Junior Bryce Edmister paced BU with a 25th place finish. Edmister wrapped up his round Tuesday with a team-best 73 (+3). After recording no birdies on the front nine Sunday, Edmister started the back firing two days later. He birdied the par 4 10th hole, the short par 4 14th hole and lastly the 177 yard par 3 17th. A double bogey on 12 derailed his round a bit, but he wrapped up play shooting one-under par over the remaining six holes.
After a disappointing 39 (+4) on the front, senior David Cellura bounced back strong to finish with a 75 (+5). Despite recording a bogey on the 18th hole, Cellura played holes 9 through 17 at even par—complete with two birdies on 11 and the par 5 15th hole. The four-year contributor took advantage of the River Course par fives, birdying both of them on his round.
Freshman Jesse Perkins (79) and sophomore Josh Holling (80) completed the scoring for Binghamton Tuesday. #27 Tennessee took home the team title with a score of 285 (+5). The Volunteers boasted a pair of players in the top-10 who both shot a 69 (-1). Casey Olson of Eastern Michigan and Cory Sciupider of Notre Dame shared the individual title with scores of three-under par.
The Bearcats quickly turn the page as they look forward to competing in the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational beginning on Sunday, March 31. The tournament will be a three-day event spanning 54 holes at the Prospect Bay GC in Grasonville, Maryland.
