VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton freshman heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for January 3. It’s the second time he has been honored by the conference after earning Rookie of the Month laurels for November.
Gwiazdowski registered a pin against Buffalo in his lone action of the week. He ended the bout in 3:44 to notch his fifth pin of the season and help undefeated BU (8-0) secure a 27-12 win. Gwiazdowski is ranked No. 20 in this week’s WIN Magazine rankings and sits at No. 2 in the CAA with a 15-4 overall record (5-1 in duals).
The Bearcats are off for seven days before the first of two huge home duals against ranked foes next week. Binghamton hosts No. 9 Oklahoma on January 10 at the West Gym and then moves over to the Events Center for an historic televised battle against No. 4 Cornell on January 15. That dual, broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports, will be the first dual ever held at the Events Center and the first televised event in the 42-year history of the wrestling program.
