VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton swimming and diving program completed its coaching staff for the 2012-13 season. Joining head coach Sean Clark will be first-year assistants Andrew Palumbo and Samantha Graham.
“We are fortunate to have found such passionate and knowledgeable assistant coaches with deep ties to Binghamton,” head coach Sean Clark said. “As an athlete here, Andrew (Palumbo) displayed the sort of dedication and maturity that will serve us well in his new duties on staff. And Samantha’s (Graham) lifelong excitement with the sport of diving locally and regionally is a great boon to our student-athletes. We’re very excited to get the season started and continue the growth of our program.”
Palumbo spent the past two years as the head coach of the Tampa YMCA Stingrays and Aquatics Director of the New Tampa YMCA where he supervised nine coaches and over 300 swimmers. While in those positions Palumbo was extremely successful, having 21 swimmers qualify for YMCA Nationals, two YMCA All-Americans and two third-place finishes at the YMCA State Championship in 2011 and 2012.
Prior to his time in Tampa, Palumbo spent a year as the head coach of the North Pinellas YMCA where he grew the program from 20 swimmers to 90 swimmers in just eight months. Palumbo began his coaching career as an assistant of the Yorktown Swim Team in 2006 and then took over as head coach of his former club team in 2008. Palumbo is a member of the American Swim Coaches Association.
A 2009 graduate of Binghamton University, Palumbo earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Evolution and Behavior Path. While at Binghamton, Palumbo starred on the men’s swim team capturing a 2009 America East title in the 100 breast and the former captain still ranks second on Binghamton’s all-time top-ten list in both the 100 and 200 breast.
Graham, a native of Vestal, returns home to assist Clark after battling his squads while diving for the University of Maine. During her four years at Maine, Graham was a three-time finalist at the America East Championships and earned the Miller Diving Award and Chandler Comeback Award from her alma mater. She ranks second all-time at Maine on the one-meter board.
The 2010 University of Maine graduate joins the Binghamton staff after spending the past year coaching at Vestal High School. While there, Graham was responsible for the men and women divers which will be her focus at Binghamton. She coached three men and three women divers to top-12 finishes at the Section IV Championships. Graham is a member of USA Diving and has spent several years coaching at camps in Binghamton and Maine.
Graham earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and has a K-12 teaching certification in the state of Maine. Her brother Ryan Graham dove for Binghamton from 2005-2009 and still holds the one-meter and three-meter diving records.
