Head volleyball coach Glenn Kiriyama to take part in free clinic

Clinic Itinerary

VESTAL, N.Y.—Binghamton University head volleyball coach Glenn Kiriyama has accepted an invitation to take part in the First Annual Asics Free Volleyball Coaching Clinic. The day long clinic, hosted by Worldwide Sport Supply, NYSPHSAA and Broome Community College will take place on Saturday, April 2 at Broome Community College’s Baldwin and West Gyms from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Over 150 middle school, high school and club coaches from as far as Maryland and Virginia have registered for the clinic. Joining Kiriyama on the team of instructors will be Rich Luenemann, head coach at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., Maria Nolan of Immaculate Heart Academy in New Jersey and NCAA All-American and former Division I head coach Jim Harshaw.

“The volleyball coaching community is a great group to be a part of,” Kiriyama said. “I have been fortunate to learn from other coaches who were willing to share some of their expertise and I just want to continue with the tradition of giving back. I look forward to meeting many of the coaches in attendance and hope that I can help out in some small way.”

In 11 seasons as Binghamton’s head coach, Kiriyama has compiled a record of 197-176 (.528), leading the Bearcats to America East championships in 2005 and 2009. The two-time America East Coach of the Year has made seven straight postseason appearances while coaching 14 first-team all-conference selections.

Kiriyama has over 20 years of coaching experience including stints with New Mexico State, Stephen F. Austin, Rutgers and Eastern Illinois. He received his degree from Brigham Young University in 1990, where he led the Cougars to the 1987 National Collegiate Club Volleyball Championship. He is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association and has directed numerous clinics and summer camps.

The clinic developed by Asics and sponsored by Blazer Athletic, Molten USA, Riot Sports Marketing and Tandem Sport was created as a way to say “thank you” to their customers and provide a free resource for coaches to improve their programs.
