VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior third baseman Chelsea Horne has been named the America East Conference Softball Player of the Week for April 2. She earned the award by virtue of her performance during the Bearcats’ current five-game winning streak.
Horne went going 8-for-15 at the plate this past week with two doubles, a home run and seven RBI. She also drew four walks and was hit by a pitch once.
“Chelsea had a great week at the plate,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “She really stepped it up for the team and just had a great approach in the box with every at bat.”
In the Bearcats doubleheader sweep against Hartford on March 31, she doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning of the opener and belted the eventually game-winning, two-run home run in the night cap.
Since taking over at third base seven games ago, Horne has hit .550 (11-for-20). In five America East Conference games, she has .643 with a 1.143 slugging percentage and .722 on-base percentage.
Binghamton has now three players earn weekly accolades from the America East Conference. Freshman shortstop Caitlyn Friis was the Rookie of the Week on Feb. 20 and junior outfielder Jessica Phillips was the Player of the Week on March 5.
The Bearcats (12-14, 3-3 AE) travel to Fordham on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader. On Wednesday, Binghamton faces Hofstra in a single game at 4 p.m.
