VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton sophomore tennis player Eliott Hureau has been named the America East Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Hureau becomes the second Bearcat to receive the weekly honor in 2014, joining teammate Ismael Dinia (Feb. 25).
Hureau won both his matches to spearhead BU’s 7-0 win over visiting Temple Friday night at the Binghamton Tennis Center. After pulling out an 8-7 win in the decisive doubles match at No. 3, Hureau dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles.
He ran his team-best singles record to 18-8 overall, 11-3 in duals.
Binghamton (10-5) has won eight of its last 10 matches, with the lone losses coming against nationally top-30 opponents. The Bearcats will face two ranked opponents this week in No. 52 UNC-Wilmington and No. 62 Central Florida, beginning with a Thursday morning match against Central Florida. The team will also play Yale (Friday) during its three-match trip in Wilmington, N.C.
