VESTAL—Rising senior back Trey Jasenski has been named to the Premier Development League (PDL) Team of the Week. He earned the accolade by leading his team, the Western Massachusetts Pioneers, to a pair of shutouts.
The Pioneers, who are currently 5-3-5, defeated the Seacoast United Phantoms 4-0 on June 28 and and the Boston Victoriy 2-0 on June 30. Both games were on the road. Jasenski was a starting back in both victories.
“This is a great honor to receive, especially as a defender,” he said. “I’m glad that I can help my team get shutouts and that we are being noticed for it.”
Jasenski, who was named second-team all-conference for the Bearcats in 2011, is one of 12 current players competing over the summer. Among them, fellow senior Jake Keegan, who plays for the Westchester Flames, continues to be one of the top goal scorers in the PDL.
“With many players competing on other teams over the summer, it keeps us sharp and ready to come into the preseason ready to work,” he said. “Since so many will be in shape when preseason comes around, we will be ready to work with everyone being a step ahead. This is going to be the start to a great season.”
