Cambridge, MASS—
Senior Binghamton women’s tennis standout Jillian Santos was awarded with the Female Tennis Player of the Week award Wednesday afternoon by the America East conference. Santos, who has been named second team all-conference in singles three years in a row, earns her first player of the week honors in her three-plus years at Binghamton.
Santos recorded her 80th career victory with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Albany’s Rocio Lopez Friday evening at the Binghamton Tennis Center. Santos, who plays at the No.1 singles position, joins four other BU players to have reached the 80-win mark. She is just nine wins shy of tying former teammate Yulia Smirnova as the leader in program history.
Teaming up with freshman Missy Edelblum, Santos picked up a 9-7 victory on the doubles court against Albany as well. Now with 71 career wins, Santos sits alone with the third highest win total in Bearcat Women’s tennis history.
