CHARLOTTESVILLE, N.C. - Sophomore Robin Lesage captured the “Orange” singles flight to highlight Binghamton’s action at the 11th annual UVa Fall Classic. The tournament, which began on Friday, was played at the Snyder Tennis Center before moving indoors on Sunday.

“I thought Robin had a good tournament,” head coach Adam Cohen said. “He played a bit more aggressive from the back of the court and in doing gained some confidence with his shots. He started out slow in the finals on Sunday, but found his rhythm and took advantage of this by playing a much better second set and a good super breaker to win the match. I also thought our younger guys did a decent job of competing this weekend.”

Lesage won three straight matches to reach the final and then battled past highly-touted, top-seeded Julen Uriguen from the host Cavaliers, 0-6, 6-2, 10-7 in the title match. Uriguen has been nationally-ranked all three collegiate years and was positioned as high as No. 65 last year. He was the fourth-ranked junior in the world before enrolling at Virginia.

Earlier in the tournament, Lesage posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Peter Pello of Norfolk State, a 6-2, 6-0 triumph against Aaron Wicker of Richmond and in the semifinals, he earned a 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 victory over second-seeded Sebastian Lopez of Charleston.

Lesage also teamed with freshman Eliott Hureau for a pair of wins in the “Black” doubles draw. The pair won the consolation crown with an 8-6 win over a pair from Morgan State on Saturday.
