VESTAL, N.Y.—Senior right hander Jay Lynch has been selected as the America East Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. It’s the second time he has earned the weekly honor this spring.
Lynch fired a complete-game two-hitter with eight strikeouts to beat Albany on Sunday. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and notched his third win of the season to help the Bearcats (16-12, 7-7 AE) win the rubber game of the series against the Great Danes, 4-1. In the process, BU evened its conference record and moved to within a half-game of second place in the America East standings.
Lynch allowed just two singles - a two-out hit in the sixth and an infield single in the seventh inning. He retired the side in order in five of his nine innings and struck out the side in the second inning. He threw 119 pitches, 80 for strikes.
In his last five outings, Lynch has given up just four earned runs in 30 innings on the hill (1.20 ERA). He lowered his ERA to 1.20 in five appearances against conference opponents and lowered his season ERA to 2.44, which ranks fifth in the America East. Lynch also ranks fourth in opposing batting average, holding foes to a .228 mark.
